Nature based mindfulness
We are in nature and nature is within us
Nature based mindfulness is a simple and powerful way to re-connect with the essential nature of who we are. When we’re in a wild environment the senses come alive, and the power of the natural world draws us into intimate connection with it. Allowing ourselves to be touched by our environment, we recognize that everything relies on everything else in order to manifest. We realize our inter-connectedness, what Thich Nhat Hanh describes as “inter-being”. Our focus shifts from “I” to a wider understanding of “we” in relation to sharing our land and resources.
Recognizing our reciprocal relationship with our more-than-human world, fosters a sense of connection, empathy, belonging, and self-responsibility. It engenders within us a deep respect and reverence for the world we abide within.
Conscious engagement with nature supports a sense of inner peace, feeling connected and supported, and confidence to skilfully approach challenges in life.
Inner stillness and outer wilderness are a powerful combination for dissolving stress, anxiety and tension. Nature provides us space to breath, to feel our feelings, to restore balance and re-establish inner harmony. This helps us refocus our connection with who we are, our values, our gifts, and our innate purpose.
When we mindfully explore ourselves and our connection with nature, we feel empowered, a sense of wonderment arises, and we foster a belief in ourselves and our ability to solve a problem, reach a goal, and make a difference in the world around us.
